PRACTICE OVERVIEW Doctors of Northcote is a large to medium size purpose built general practice located in Northcote, an inner suburb of Melbourne. The practice is situated in ultra modern custom renovated premises on the busy shopping strip of High Street, adjacent to a pharmacy and public transport. Doctors of Northcote provides a broad range of family and community medicine and is an established travel health clinic administering Yellow Fever vaccinations. The practice is an accredited teaching practice with both the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners for subsequent trainees and Melbourne University for final year medical students. Northcote is a multicultural inner city suburb with a changing population. The suburb has recently had widespread property development and subsequently an influx of young professionals and young couples with families. The older multicultural population largely remains creating interesting diverse patient demographics. The clinic has room for expansion and has recently taken on on several doctors some of who completed their FRACGP training with the GP mentors of Doctors of Northcote. Some doctors and administration staff ride bicycles to work taking advantage of the network of local bike trails and the facilities for storage and showers at Doctors of Northcote. The practice presently consists of 14 doctors, some part time, supported by one full time practice manager, two registered nurses and 9 receptionists. The doctors provide a comprehensive range of family medical services and have special interests including asthma, geriatrics, men's health, shared care. paediatrics, diving medicals, drug rehabilitation, acupuncture and skin cancer. Other services on site include physiotherapists, counsellors, dietetics and pathology. Patient health records at the practice are fully computerised using Medical Director. The billing and appointment systems are also computerised using Pracsoft. PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION Dr James Lynch is a highly qualified, experienced general practitioner of many years. He has a special interest in medical education. Dr Lynch tutors and examines medical undergraduates at Melbourne University and is an examiner and mentor for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Sandra Lynch is an experienced general practitioner of many years with a special interest in family medicine, paediatrics and drug rehabilitation. She participates in the antenatal care of pregnant women attending the Royal Women's Hospital and the Mercy for Women. Dr Sandra Lynch is an examiner and mentor for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. All the doctors at Doctors of Northcote may be involved in the training of medical students on site. Our doctors at Doctors of Northcote continue their professional training and development by ongoing and additional graduate studies in areas of special interest. The doctors attend learning activities which enables them to receive points for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Quality Assurance & Continuing Professional Development (QA &CPD) Program. At Doctors of Northcote we organise clinical meetings and invite specialists from different areas to present and discuss topics of interest to the General Practitioners. Our regular monthly doctors meetings include case studies and presentation of various medical topics. Doctors of Northcote encourage ongoing learning activities for all medical, nursing and administration staff. GENERAL PRACTICE DIVISIONS Doctors of Northcote are both members of and involved in education and training activities in both the Northern Metropolitan Division of General Practitioners and the North East valley Division of General Practitioners. PRACTICE SPECIAL INTERESTS Minor surgical procedures, antenatal, family medicine, acupuncture, paediatrics, travel health, men's health, preventative medicine and sexual health.
